Mauve Internet

Accessibility

More and more companies are waking up to the fact that their existing websites may not contain any provisions for restricted viewing.

There are several reasons why accessibility is so important.

The Law
Under UK law, websites which are inaccessible to those with disabilities fall foul of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
Search Ranking
Accessibility techniques help search engines rank pages. Accessible sites often have a higher ranking and receive more traffic.
Value of Content
Visitors to your website will find your information more valuable. This will encourage greater use of your site.

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

The WCAG is the definitive internet standard for web accessibility. It consists of a number of tests broken into three levels, A, Double-A and Triple-A, according to importance. Websites must pass all tests for a given level to claim that level of conformance.

The tests are somewhat technical in nature and in the majority of cases cannot be performed automatically. For this reason we offer an accessibility auditing service which will evaluate a website's level of conformance to the WCAG tests, providing reports as to how and why tests are failing so that the issues may be addressed.
